Greek Owned: Privacy Policy

The short version: Greek Owned only looks at the Google Maps business you're viewing, to check whether it's on our list. We don't collect your name, email or browsing history, we don't track you across sites, and we never sell anything.
What the extension does
Greek Owned is a Chrome extension that shows a "Greek-owned" badge on Google Maps listings for businesses on our community list, and lets you suggest businesses that should be added.
What we receive, and why
When you open a business on Google Maps, the extension sends that business's name, street address and Google's place identifiers to our server, which answers "on the list" or "not on the list." This is only done on Google Maps business pages, never on other websites.
Along with it, the extension sends a random ID created when you install it. It isn't tied to your name, email or Google account. We use it only to stop any one install from making an unreasonable number of requests. Lookups are not stored by us.
When you send a suggestion, we receive the business's name, address, place identifiers and Maps link, the option you picked ("I'm the owner", "family or friend", or "I know it's Greek-owned"), and any note you choose to write. Suggestions are saved so we can review them. Please don't put personal contact details in the note.
What stays on your computer
- Answers for places you've looked at, remembered for up to 3 hours so pages load faster. These are cleared when you close Chrome.
- A list of places you've already suggested, so the button can show "Suggested. Thanks!"
- The random install ID described above.
Removing the extension deletes all of it.
What we don't do
- We don't read or collect your browsing history, searches, or any page other than the Google Maps business you're viewing.
- We don't collect your name, email, location or Google account information.
- We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
- We don't sell, rent or share data with anyone for advertising or any other purpose.
Services we use
Our server runs on Cloudflare. Like any website host, Cloudflare handles your connection, which includes your IP address, and may keep short-term technical logs. Suggestions are stored in a private Google Sheet (Google) that only the Greek Owned team can open.
Chrome Web Store user data policy
The use of information received from the extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide the extension's single purpose: showing and growing the list of Greek-owned businesses on Google Maps.
Keeping and deleting data
Suggestions are kept while they're useful for maintaining the list. If you sent a suggestion and want it removed, email us with the business name and we'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
